Wiggins ReportThe John H. Wiggins Company was commissioned by the National Science Foundation in 1974 to prepare a report that would attempt to put the natural hazard loss picture in the U.S. into some sort of coherent perspective. In planning the study it was decided to concentrate on building losses as a first effort. The conclusions from the building study would provide insight on possible losses to other types of facilities. In carrying out the study, the Wiggins Company involved and interacted with a large number of organizations and persons to develop the natural hazard loss picture. Although a large number of copies of the Report were initially published in 1976, the document is now out of print. However, this study is still a remarkable document as it is still one of the few studies that may be available in which the total loss picture for nine hazards for the entire United States was considered. Because the document is no longer available in it's original form but is still of great interest, the original document was scanned and is being made available on this web site in a three-part Adobe .pdf format.
